Antelope Island, Utah

Antelope Island is a small island in the Salt Lake. Though most notable these days is the herd of 500+ buffalo, initially introduced to the island back in 1897, you can find a few antelope if you look around. It's quite the place and an easy stop to see some buffalo up close if you're in the Salt Lake City area.

And just a behind the scenes... my path to get out for the bird pictures.

Perseids Meteor Shower

The annual Perseids meteor shower had me out looking for some clear skies. As suggested by the first shot, we had some heavy cloud cover on the first peak night of the storm. Second attempt, to the North end of the Salt Lake had better results with a lucky clear strip of sky running North to South. This spot is also known for it's Elephant shaped rock.

Didn't come back with any great meteor shots but learned enough to grab some better sky shots next time. It's also got me planning for some very cold nights in the winter.

Ready for Harvest

Well, the flowers aren't. Those are local Arnica flowers (I believe!) that grow wild from east to west sides of Cache Valley and beyond. Which I found while out scouting for some locations. Cache Valley sure is pretty.

Train ride from Vişeul de Sus up the Vaser River

Growing up we learned that Utah is a desert in school. Though living here, with green grass and growing trees. I'd never really considered it to be. Having traveled all around the world, it's pretty apparent.

Vişeul de Sus is located in Northern Romania. Primarily used for the lumber industry, a train ride offers a trip into the Vaser River Valley for tourists. Pulled by an old fashion Steam Engine the ride is about 1.5 hours before a stop for lunch and time to relax. It's a beautiful spot.

Chipul lui Decebal and Danube River

This rock sculpture is of Decebalus, the last kind of Dacia. It is located along the Danube river along the border with Serbia. Which I was in for a few minutes as we traveled by boat! So, I guess I can add Serbia to the list as well.

Transfăgărășan: Mountain Pass Through the Southern Carpathians

Transfăgărășan is a road that starts near the village of Bascov and climbs to it's highest point of over 6500ft (2000m). Making it the second highest pass in Romania. It's winding roads bring motorcycle, bike, and road way enthusiasts alike. Having also been featured in the British Televsion show Top Gear. It certainly made use of my years of driving.

At that height, it still had a bit of snow for those wishing to hit the slopes a while longer.
